Ar­ran En­ergy is the is­land’s own RHI-ac­cred­ited sup­plier of re­new­able biomass wood fu­els. Wood chip fuel is pro­duced by the com­pany in large quan­ti­ties each year from lo­cally grown tim­ber, us­ing their spe­cialised pro­cess­ing and han­dling sys­tems. The re­new­able en­ergy fuel is de­liv­ered daily to the eight com­mer­cial biomass boiler sys­tems around the is­land, at premises such as the Auchran­nie Spa, Lam­lash Hospi­tal and even the new Brod­ick Ferry Ter­mi­nal. ‘We were in­stru­men­tal in bring­ing the wood biomass heat­ing en­ergy con­cept to the is­land,’ says com­pany owner An­gus Smith. ‘Kin­loch Ho­tel was the first to em­brace the tech­nol­ogy with their wood chip heat­ing plant back in 2010, quickly fol­lowed by the Auchran­nie Ho­tel.’ To­day, all wood chip boil­ers on Ar­ran are run­ning at max­i­mum ef­fi­ciency en­sur­ing the heat gen­er­ated from lo­cal Ar­ran tim­ber is pro­vided in a fully en­vi­ron­men­tally friendly man­ner. Ar­ran En­ergy also pro­vide do­mes­tic cus­tomers with wood pel­lets and hot-burn­ing wood bri­quettes. Th­ese are de­liv­ered in con­ve­niently-sized bags which can eas­ily be han­dled in the home. The pel­lets are for mod­ern au­to­matic stoves or boil­ers and the bri­quettes are ideal for con­ven­tional stoves or open fire­places.
