Arran pupils explore job opportunities

-

School pupils from across North Ayrshire, including a healthy contingent from Arran, relished the opportunity to investigate career opportunities available to them at an employment fayre held recently in Beith.

Organised by Patricia Gibson MP and Kenneth Gibson MSP, the North Ayrshire Employment Fayre provided students with information on employment, training and apprenticeships.

Providing insight into the opportunities available, 55 employers from a range of industries engaged with pupils and provided useful career advice and information for prospective employees.

Among those taking part, and spread out across two halls at the Beith Community Centre, were a range of top employers including BT Openreach, Loganair and the Royal Navy to the Forestry Commission – with four jobs coming up soon on Arran – to Malcolm Construction, EDF and Rolls Royce.

Organiser Kenneth Gibson MSP said: ‘I am delighted that the employment fayre – our ninth since 2013 – was so successful.

‘Such events present an opportunity for people looking for a job, apprenticeships and training to actually meet and chat informally with a host of employers who have vacancies. For senior school pupils, it also allows them to see the wide range of employment opportunities and career choices that are open to them.’
