Arran is battered by Storm Diana

-

Arran took a battering from Storm Diana on Wednesday.

The worsening weather halted the ferry by lunchtime and there were widespread reports of flooding on the roads, making many inaccessible due to strong winds and high tides.

Corrie was particularly badly hit with the road closed for a time at Sannox leading to long queues. The south of the island, an in particular the Kildonan road, was also badly hit and there were big waves crashing over the sea wall in Whiting Bay. The course at Brodick Golf Club was also badly flooded.

However, by Thursday morning the severe weather had eased but persistent heavy rain remained. After berthing ovenight in Brodick, fer- ry sailings resumed with the 8.20am which left on time for Ardrossan.

Diana is not on the list of the Met Office’s official storm names for this winter, and originated further south.

Met Office spokesman Richard Miles said the storm, named by the Portuguese authorities, ‘had quite an impact on islands in the Atlantic’,but weakened as it came towards the UK.
