Stitch your story in 2019

-

A new community arts project for 2019 entitled 52 Stitched Stories will be launched next month for interested participants.

The event will be held on Friday December 7, between 11am and 2pm, at Coast in Whiting Bay, and will introduce visitors to the concept and provide information about the project which is also being undertaken in West Kilbride.

The ambition is for everyone involved to create a textile postcard once a week for an entire year. Any textile medium can be used and the word ‘stitch’ can be widely interpreted. The resulting 52 postcards will reflect an individual’s personal narratives throughout the year and can draw inspiration from anywhere and anything: changing seasons, life events, emotions, activities or simply just a colour.

Participants will meet monthly throughout the project to share work in progress and to support each other.

Project co-ordinator Fiona Doubleday, who is working with her counterpart in West Kilbride, said: ‘This project is open to everyone and the idea is to bring people together through stitching and sharing. It is a year-long project which should produce an interesting outcome.

‘The hope is that the postcards and communities will come together sometime in 2020 for a sharing event.’

A starter kit will be available at the launch for a nominal charge to cover cost and if you are interested in joining but are unable to attend the event on Friday December 7, you can email earththreadsuk@ gmail.com and a starter pack can be posted out to you.
