Arran poets go coastal at sea themed event

-

Arran Poetry, whose verse has been described as mellifluous in recent years, is hosting a poetry reading next week in a continuing of their series of off-piste Not National Poetry Day, Poetry Days.

This year the Arran Poetry forum has joined with Community Of Arran Seabed Trust (COAST) to deliver an evening of themed poetry and music in the Brodick Bar on Thursday December 6 at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

The theme will be The Sea, or anything related to the sea. Organiser Cicely Gill said: ‘It will not surprise you to know that we are joining with COAST for this event.

‘Since COAST is about honouring and appreciating the sea in all its aspects, we thought it would be interesting to explore how poets have related to and engaged with it – are they on the same wave-length? – so we are hoping that you will bring us your favourite poems on this subject or one you have written yourself’.

A selection of 10 readers have already been invited to share and read either their own poems or poems by other writers. Music will be provided by one of Arran’s own vocal ensembles, Vivace, fresh from their stint in Arran Active last week in support of the SSPCA.

New readers are always welcome and can still register interest to read by phoning Cicely on 700464. This is a major outing of Arran Poetry and is described by the organisers as an event not to be missed.
