Brodick committee
Following a public meeting in Brodick Hall last month a new Brodick village committee has been formed and has met for the first time.
The aims of the committee will be to address local issues and also to initiate some of the improvements needed around the village.
Hopefully, this will mean that the whole village will become involved and the community will really get to know each other.
The name of the committee will be the Brodick Improvements Committee.
At present it has no finances and it is inviting members of the local community to contribute by either giving a donation to a committee member or putting it directly into its bank account at the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Later when it is fully established it will be researching funding opportunities from other sources for various projects.
Decision deferred
An application for an extension to Sannox quarry has been deferred by councillors on the North Ayrshire Council planning committee to make a site visit and meet with objectors. Some of the objectors had gone to the council meeting in Irvine on Wednesday to hear the debate.
Afterwards opponent Elma Stevenson said: ‘I feel that we’re being dealt with very fairly by North Ayrshire.
‘In a way they may be trying to redress some of the wrong that has been done in the past.’
Another, Mrs Gillies, whose house is just yards from the quarry, added: ‘If it is allowed, there is nothing to stop the operator from applying again, and again, and again.’
Objectors say that at present the quarry is reasonably hidden but any extension would bring it out into the open.
Modern dance
A small Glasgow dance company spent three days at Lamlash Primary School last week instructing pupils of P5, P6 and P7 in modern dance techniques.
Paul and Pauline Joseph of Kultyer Dance Theatre put the pupils through their paces in a fusion of contemporary dance, street dance and physical theatre which culminated in a short public display by the youngsters on Wednesday afternoon.
