Corrie art winners on show in iCentre
An Arran author is hosting an exhibition of the entries submitted for an art competition she held last month.
Taking place in the Brodick iCentre, the exhibition features all 61 entries from children aged eight and under who were invited to draw a picture of the Corrie’s Capers books’ main character Corrie the West Highland terrier in their favourite place in Scotland.
The Westie Fest is the first book in the not-for-profit writing career of Alison Page, the Arran community ambassador for Mary’s Meals, who has contributed more than £1,500 to the charity from the book project alone.
Visitors will be able to have a look at all of the entries, which came from Arran, Edinburgh, Glasgow and further afield, with six winners and 11 commendations all mounted onto the wall and the remainder in age category books that visitors can look through.
The competition, which was in four age categories
under five, six, seven and eight years old saw two categories having two winners each. Winning the under five category was Alex from Oxgangs Primary School in Edinburgh. Sam from Cordon on Arran and Hanna, also from Oxgangs Primary School, were the winners in the six-year-old category. Hari from Glasgow was the seven-yearold winner and Rhegan and Lucy, both of Touch Primary School in Dunfermline, were the winners in the eight-year-old category.
Winners were chosen by independent judge Jean Bowden, who could not decide on just a single winner in the six- and eightyear-old categories owing to the high standard of entries and awarded two first place winners in each of those categories.
The 11 commended drawings have each been awarded special prizes while the six main winners have each received collectable Corrie’s Capers goodie-bags full of signed books, Corrie’s Capers merchandise and age-related gifts.
The exhibition will be open for the duration of December, following the iCentre's opening hours.
