A feast at Corrie foodfest
There was a whole host of tasty treats on offer last Saturday at the Corrie winter foodfest.
Despite the appalling weather, the village hall was packed with visitors eager to sample some of the fine fare like the Mara fish bar and deli, which was selling white fish, chorizo and butter bean stew, hot smoked salmon macaroni cheese and some delicious fresh oysters from the sea.
Arran Supper Club was serving up traditional German fayre with venison gulash, bratwurst, and very importantly, gluwein and mulled cider.
Ferghan Mhor vegan B&B had haggis sausage rolls and hearty winter veg soup with red wine and mustard on the go. For those with a sweet tooth there were dark chocolate brownies, Dundee cake, empire biscuits and a gluten free sweetie offering.
Thai Street Food was at the festival again serving moo tod (garlic fried pork) sticky rice and laab ghai among other things while Red’s Vintage Tea Parties had huge selection of cakes, cupcakes and sweet treats, some almost too beautiful to eat.
Blackwater Bakehouse was not only selling its delicious loaves but also had Christmas specialities and grilled cheese paninis. The Isle of Arran Gin Company was also there with its new mini-sized bottle, which is the perfect size for stocking fillers, and there were some tasters too.
Woodside Arran CIC was also there selling its local produce.
‘Donna’s Jams and preserves’ – made from lArran’s fruit and veg and there were beautiful ceramics for sale by Simon Thorborn of Arran Ceramics.
There was also entertainment throughout the day to make it a real early festive treat.
