Shiskine shines at Christmas
Shiskine and Blackwaterfoot have set a shining example of festive spirit this year with their stunning display of village Christmas lights and with their charitable collection for ArCaS.
Known informally as the Shiskine Sparkle – a collection of houses and businesses which take part in a friendly competition to brighten up their premises with festive lights and decorations – the collective illuminations became a much-visited destination for visitors who took their children to see all of the bright lights and Christmas decorations.
Shining brightly this year, Agnes Madden of Shiskine won the good natured competition with a creative display of Santa, elves, snowmen and various lights which greeted cars approaching Shiskine from the String.
Residents of the Shiskine Valley, and from further afield, packed the Kinloch Hotel on Sunday December 23 to take part in the annual bumper Christmas Mackerel Lottery which, with the help of two generous donations, raised £1,310 for Arran Cancer Support to help fund a palliative care team for Arran.
Posting on social media a hotel spokeswoman said: ‘This afternoon you made the Mega Mackerel Lottery the best one yet! We’re not sure we’ve ever had that many people in the restaurant and as for the amount of prizes donated ... you’re all amazing! We really cannot thank you enough for all of your support.’
