Happy New Year
To say 2018 was a year of uncertainty is putting it mildly and, nationally, little looks like changing – at least until the Euro leave date of March 29.
However, on Arran there is much to look forward to in 2019. The spring should not only see the muchanticipated reopening of Brodick Castle as well as the island’s second distillery at Lagg, boosting Arran’s appeal as a whisky destination.
Work will also start around this time on the first new council houses on Arran for more than 30 years, with the 34 homes in Brodick a much-needed shot in the arm to the affordable housing stock.
It is also to be hoped that now the McLaren Hotel site has been given planning permission for a new hotel, some progress will at least be made soon to clear the eyesore sight and, still in Brodick, the proposed cinema in the old ferry ticket office should be open by Easter.
On the ferry front, some progress should at last be made to the much-needed redevelopment works at Ardrossan. Less certain is just what is going to happen to the new Arran ferry – which we can only hope will come into service at some time in 2019. Fingers crossed.
So it only leaves us to wish all our readers a very Happy New Year.
