Ex­hi­bi­tion high­lights plas­tic fight

Think About Plas­tic-Ar­ran (TAP) is de­lighted to be kick­ing off Ar­ran Li­brary ex­hi­bi­tions for 2019.

The TAP steer­ing group, which in­cludes both of Ar­ran’s coun­cil­lors, rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the Com­mu­nity of Ar­ran Seabed Trust (COAST), EcoSavvy, the Co-op and rep­re­sen­ta­tives from lo­cal busi­nesses and com­mu­nity groups, aims to get ev­ery­one on Ar­ran think­ing about their pur­chas­ing de­ci­sions con­cern­ing plas­tic items, their use of plas­tic, in par­tic­u­lar sin­gle-use plas­tic, and how they dis­pose of plas­tic.

He­len How, chair­woman of TAP-Ar­ran, said: ‘Ev­ery­one is aware of the aw­ful con­se­quences that plas­tic in our seas has on ma­rine life and the en­vi­ron­ment.

‘This ex­hi­bi­tion aims to show how res­i­dents and vis­i­tors on Ar­ran can make mi­nor changes in their homes and busi­nesses to re­sult in sig­nif­i­cant changes to the amount of plas­tic ending up on our beaches and en­ter­ing the seas around Ar­ran.

‘TAP is al­ready work­ing with many is­land or­gan­i­sa­tions and busi­nesses to achieve this aim but we hope to en­gage even more.’

The ex­hi­bi­tion will run un­til Jan­uary 31. It in­cludes in­for­ma­tion about the amount, type and source of lit­ter on Ar­ran’s beaches, an in­ter­ac­tive ac­tiv­ity about re­cy­cling and ideas about how we can all help keep Ar­ran’s seas and beaches plas­tic free.
