Where does money go?

-

Sir, Your front-page (Saturday December 29) reports that tourism is worth more than £60 million a year to Arran. Where does the money go? It is certainly not going into the pockets of local people.

It has previously been said that only two hotels on the island can afford to pay the real living wage of £8.75 per hour. What does this mean? Is the £60 million figure an illusion, or are a lot of people working for next to nothing?

It sounds like a rip off to me. Why don’t you try and get to the bottom of that one?

Yours, Alistair McIntosh, Lamlash.
