Southend dump Lamlash from Arran Haulage Cup

-

Lamlash were hard done by to leave Sandbraes Park on Monday night, having been knocked out of the cup in a game that was almost equally matched, but decided in extra time. The Neil Young boys looked determined from the outset and put up a determined fight.

Creating chances through the first half, they were finally rewarded when Johnny Sloss scored a sublime free kick into the top corner of the goals.

The lead didn’t last long as Southend went on the attack down the right side and Donny Park converted a great solo goal to put the scores level at the break.

Lamlash went in front once again when Ben Tattersfield headed the ball into the bottom corner of the goals.

Southend pushed forward continually but the Lamlash defence stood strong until 10 minutes to go when Ryan Armstrong met Gregor Crichton’s corner to nod it in and to force extra time.

It was Ryan once again who made the difference in the second half of extra time to power in a left-footed strike to put the Southenders through to the semi final.

Referee Ian McDonald gave the man of the match to young Southend defender Joe McHugh, who put in a solid shift defensively and also made some great runs down the right wing.

The semi finals of the Arran Haulage Cup will take place on Monday July 1 when Shiskine take on Southend and Northend play against Brodick. Brodick striker Joel Small stole the show on Monday night with an emphatic display to earn the man-of-thematch award and add another four goals to his tally for the season. Lachlan Campbell scored his first goal for Brodick and also got another to mark a brilliant game for the youngster.

Iain Keen made his comeback for Brodick and was rewarded with a goal too. John Drummond, Kyle McNicol and Cameron Logan were also on the score sheet for the visitors.

Donald Mulholland scored for Shiskine and Martyn Hynes unfortunately got his second own goal in as many weeks.
