The Arran store beat off competition from all over the UK to be crowned best team champions in the Co-op’s 2020 Succeed Together Awards.

Last year manager Liz McLean and her team were nominated for the same category and proudly represented the Northern region. This year, making it through to the final 10 and then the final five, Brodick faced some tough competition from across all areas of the Co-op including Funeralcare, Logistics and the Store Support centre.

After some intense judging by the panel, including the Co-op CEO Steve Murrells, Brodick was chosen as the winner and would normally have gone to Manchester to collect the award. This year the managers came to them. Visiting Arran this week, regional manager Alan Campbell said: ‘This competition is open to all areas of the Co-op Group, which even more highlights the fantastic team work within Brodick Big Co.

‘Actively engaging with the island community, local suppliers and tourists alike, the team has been an inspiration for many in our region with fantastic community engagement, from sing-alongs to ferry cancellations the team have always strived to deliver an A+ service for our island community and colleagues.’

During the lockdown the team at the Brodick Co-op worked round the clock to make sure they delivered food and essentials across the island to those shielding and others in need and supporting the community in any way they could.

Manager Liz said: ‘While we are super proud to win this award we know we couldn’t have achieved this without the continual support of Colin McCort and his team at CalMac and also Struan Armitage at Arran Haulage and his drivers.

‘My team and I would also like to extend our thanks to you, our amazing customers, who have kept us all going in more ways than one. I feel a celebration coming on!’
