Boys and girls from Brodick, Kilmory, Shiskine and Whiting Bay, in classes P4 to P7, have formed a new classroom bubble based at the Arran Outdoor Education Centre in Lamlash.

This is for the children of key workers and vulnerable children in these schools. Their day starts, as ever, with sanitising and a temperature check before they begin their learning activities provided by their own teachers.

Each day there is a class teacher and classroom assistant to support them through their paper-based learning pack and their Seesaw activities. The focus for learning is numeracy, literacy and health and wellbeing.

Arran primary schools head teacher Shirley MacLauchlan said: ‘The centre staff have been hugely welcoming and so supportive of everyone. ‘Each day the children are involved with a centre activity, from the climbing wall, to geo-caching, down on the shore collecting seaweed for the raised bed and enjoying some outdoor learning too.’

This hub will continue until schools are able to return, which, for primary schools, is expected to be March 15, with face-to-face time for some high school pupils and all schools to return after the Easter holidays.
