Show your love on Mother’s Day

-

Mums have been the glue holding us all together during these tough times, so let’s say a big thank-you for all they have done.

If ever there has been a year when mums should be treasured even more than ever before on Mother’s Day then this is it!

In 2021 the day falls on Sunday March 14 and that is just two days before the anniversary of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Let’s all be honest here - since that fateful day on March 16 2020 it has been our mothers who have been putting in the overtime.

We’re not dissing all the dads (we love you too, and your day will come on Sunday June 20).

But it has been our mums who have been the glue holding families together; any quick poll would show that yes, it is women who still do the major share of the housework and child care.

Alongside that they have been working from home while juggling home schooling.

Add to that the fact that we are all in the house all day so that is an awful lot more cooking going on – and all this while some families have had to cope on reduced budgets.

Not only have mums been acting like glue to keep us all sticking together through Covid they have also been juggling, plate-spinning, multi-tasking marvels to boot! And when our mums have needed support and advice, who have they been turning to? Chances are it is their mums and their mum’s mum so let’s hear it for the grannies and the great-grandmothers too! They all deserve the absolute best we can give them this year – alongside the flowers and chocs and breakfast in bed. So arrange a takeway from one of our many establishments still open or shop for extra special ingredients for, and cook up a, Mother’s Day Sunday lunch.

You could get an extra treat lined up for when the time comes that lockdown is over. Perhaps a voucher for a pampering session at a spa, hairdressers or beauticians or whisk her away for a weekend break; perhaps arrange a girls afternoon tea for your mum and grannies and aunties.

Let’s let our mums know how much we love and appreciate them all and all they have done for us this year.
