The Arran Banner
Folk-pop duo record Arran homage on debut album
Glasgow folk-pop duo Braw have included a homage to Arran on their new album.
Singer songwriter Iain Mundy first recorded the track The Tide on his solo EP in 2018, which was featured in the Banner.
Since then Iain and his brother Andrew have teamed up to form the folk-pop duo Braw and, after releasing a number of singles, have just released their debut album, A Few Miles More.
The album includes the version of The Tide which was re-recorded in Glasgow earlier this year.
Iain explained: ‘The Tide was written about our grandpa Tom Mundy, who was a well-known resident of Cordon Bay with his wife Margaret. She passed in 2009 and him in 2014.
‘As a family, we still love Arran and will be visiting once restrictions allow. Braw did a mini tour in 2019 playing at the PHT in Lamlash and Crofters in Brodick. We’ll definitely organise to come back and play both venues when we can.’
‘A Few Miles More’ is an album about life in your early 20s, as you try to get a grip of where and how you should spend it.
‘It reflects on the people you’ve lost and life’s long journey to achieving your dreams.
‘We hope this is just the start of Braw’s journey, as we love writing and performing together.’
Based in Glasgow’s south side and specialising in close harmony vocals, their unique vocal blend allows them to create innovative and original harmonies. Iain said: ‘We’ve put a lot of hours into this and are excited to finally get it out there. As we’ve been feeling our way into the music industry, we’ve released four of the songs as singles: Swing Door, Piece By Piece, Home From Home and Whisky in Hand.
‘Although we haven’t been able to play live since lockdown, we’ve gained a decent wee online following, managing to get Whisky In Hand into the Scottish Singles Chart - before this was axed - and the main iTunes singles chart.’
The album can be bought in CD form directly from brawofficial.com and it can be streamed and downloaded in all the usual places – Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Amazon.
