Seniors Bowl tees off island golfing season

Arran Golfers Associatio­n (AGA) has announced the first fixtures of the season which kicks off with the Seniors Bowl which starts at the end of the month.

Fixtures are as follows: Seniors Bowl at Whiting Bay, Friday April 30, Friday May 7 and Friday May 14, all at 5pm sharp. The first round draw is as follows: Whiting Bay get a bye in the first round to the semi-finals where they play the winners of Lamlash v Shiskine. The other two first round matches are: Lochranza Castle v Machrie Bay and Corrie v Brodick.

Spring Handicap at Brodick, Sunday May 2, morning and afternoon slots available. Contact your club to put your name on the sheet or contact Hamish via Facebook. Late entries will be accepted.

Junior Handicap at Brodick, Monday May 3, from 4pm, under-18s, strokeplay.

The annual general meeting can’t go ahead as usual due to the pandemic.

The plan is to have it later in the year.

Lamlash Golf Club

Ladies section: Wednesday April 14, Easter competitio­n. A total of 13 ladies enjoyed a 12-hole stableford competitio­n on a gloriously sunny afternoon. Winner with 29 points was Kate McAdam and runner up was Fiona Carswell with 24 points.

Corrie Golf Club

Wednesday April 14, medal. 1 D Logan 74-11=63; 2 G Decaesteck­er 84-20=64; 3 G Andrew 74-9=65. Scratch R Logan 73.

Saturday April 17, medal. 1 M McDonald 75-15=60 and scratch; 2 A McDonald 7814=64; 3 A Smith 80-14=66.

Fixtures: Saturday April 24, 18-hole medal. Please arrange your own matches and adhere to current Covid regulation­s.

Whiting Bay Golf Club

Sunday April 18, medal. After a week of bright sunny weather a bit of a shock to the system for the 22 who played on a damp and chilly morning. The shock did not appear to affect too many though; scoring was good with the top five players all beating par. Top of the heap with an

exceptiona­l net 60 was club captain Stan Rainey.

Result: 1 Stan Rainey (11) 60, 2 Jamie Stewart (5) 61 acb and lowest gross, 3 Nicol Auld (5) 61 acb, 4 Gus MacLeod (13) 61. Jamie Stewart bagged the only magic two of the day @2nd hole.

Fixtures: Sunday April 25, Captain’s Prize. For this special day there will be a draw at 10am with games starting at various tees if needed. Wednesday April 28, the Richard Parfitt Stableford.

Brodick Golf Club
