Centenery celebrations with vintage trip to Arran

- by Hugh Boag editor@arranbanner.co.uk

A company celebrating 100 years in business by undertaking a road trip in their vintage cattle float visited Arran last weekend, driving round the island and raising money for the Scottish Air Ambulance.

Well-known livestock hauliers F Davidson of Irongray is now run by the fourth generation, Bobby Davidson, and is based at Lochfoot, Dumfries.

The founder of the company, Fred Davidson, was originally from Kirkland, Irongray – hence the name.

They chose the Air Ambulance as Bobby’s grandson had an accident in which he lost his leg and it was only due to being airlifted by the air ambulance that he survived.

Arran farmers showed their support by giving him sheep/ lambs to put in the float and take back to be auctioned at Dumfries Market with the proceeds going to the charity.

They had a great day and were overwhelmed by all the support - they even picked up a few cash donations en route. They picked up livestock from The Hendersons’ at Kilpatrick, The Curries’ at the Bridge, McMasters’ at Springfield, John Murchie at Brandon and Stuart Lambie at Burnbank.

Unfortunately both distilleries were closed but they got them two bottles of Arran whisky, donated by the McKelvies’ and John Murchie. The total raised will be known after the sale at Dumfries Mart.
