Author hosts Westie Fest at library summer club
Alison Page, author of the Corrie’s Capers series of books, was the star attraction at Arran Library’s summer club last week.
A limited number of 20 lucky children, most of whom are familiar with the story books which tell the story of an Arran-based West Highland Terrier called Corrie, enjoyed an afternoon of fun games with Alison in the garden outside the library in Brodick.
Librarian Rhona Fulton and Alison entertained the children with the events which elicited peals of laughter and friendly competition between the children aged from three to 12 years old.
The games were all themed on the activities in the books, The Westie Fest, The Tattoo Toorie and the latest instalment, Corrie’s Curling Capers, which is illustrated by the highly-regarded Tony van Breugel, who also lives on Arran.
The Corrie’s Capers series is a non-profit endeavour which raises money for the charity Mary’s Meals, for which Alison is the Arran community ambassador.
The books are popular on Arran and far beyond and have raised more than £11,000 for Mary’s Meals.
The Westie Fest afternoon is the second last event of the summer club’s activities. These have so far included a scavenger hunt, a sports event and informative bee and crafts events. The remaining activity, which is yet to be finalised, will be loosely based on farming.
