Whiting Bay gets ready for a night of nonsense

-

After months of inactivity, Whiting Bay Music and Drama Club will be performing A Night of Nonsense, a series of short plays, every Tuesday night in August at Whiting Bay Hall.

The collection of short, quirky little plays has been written by members Chris and Jan Attkins and, as the name suggests, they are light-hearted, humorous and bound to entertain and raise good laughs.

The opening sketch, entitled Fond Memories, is a nostalgic reflection with an interesting twist. Following that is What are the Chances?, a tale of a housebreaking gone wrong. The Readthrough involves audience participation and Family Secrets is a light-hearted family drama. The evening concludes with The Masterpiece, featuring a painting of a young couple in the nude – well almost!

The cast consists of seasoned actors and familiar faces on the Arran acting scene: Allan Nicol, David Simpkin, Patrick and Beverley Scott, Stacey Gordon and Shannon Galbraith.

A club spokesman said: ‘After many dreary months of cancelled events and endless restrictions, the club has decided to live up to the credo that the show must go on. When we held our annual general meeting earlier this year, the idea of putting on summer plays was raised and it was decided that since the six members who were available to participate were all vaccinated, there would be no better time than the present to get back on stage. Everyone realised there was always the chance of an enforced cancellation of more events, but the general feeling was it was worth trying – at least the rehearsals would be fun.’

The opening night is Tuesday August 10 and the show will run in Whiting Bay Hall every Tuesday evening until the end of August. Doors open at 7pm with curtain-up 7.30pm prompt. Tickets, £5, available at the door.

The audience will be seated at tables and people are being encouraged to bring drinks and snacks to add to the enjoyment and to celebrate a return to some form of normality.
