First health walk and eBike open day

-

Ormidale Pavilion in Brodick played host to the first in a series of ebike drop in events held by Arran Eco Savvy on Tuesday.

There was a range of electric bikes, including an eTrike and eCargo bike, available to ride on a specially designed fun course laid out on the playing fields for people to try out the handling of the bikes.

Active travel hub officer Gerard Tattersfield said: ‘It was a great event, with an estimated 70+ people dropping in throughout the day. Everyone seemed thrilled to be able to experience ebikes within a relaxed and fun environment and come away with a much clearer understanding of the benefits that the different styles of eBikes have to offer.’

eBikes are proving very popular and in an Eco Savvy poll of people who had taken part in an ebike trial, 100 per cent of participants said they would recommend eBikes to other users on Arran.

Eco Savvy offer longer ebike loans and have plans for more eBike drop in sessions, cycle training and led eBike rides. Visit www.arranecosavvy.org. uk to register your interest in a month-long free trial of an eBike.

The first of a new programme of health walks run by NAC’s Trinity Active Travel Hub also took place on the same day.

Walk leader Diana Turbett said: ‘The first Stroll with it Arran! event enjoyed a gentle walk along the first part of the Fisherman’s Walk and up around Douglas Row before a cuppa back at Ormidale Pavilion. Fantastic views across Brodick Bay, time to enjoy the beautiful gardens and history of Douglas Row and lovely company made this first walk a great success. We are looking forward to continued regular walks and exploring more of the island.’

The next health walk will take place on Tuesday August 17 in Lamlash, with more walks planned for Brodick and Blackwaterfoot. Contact diana. ecosavvy@gmail.com for more information or to book a place. Walks last 1 to 1.5 hours, are free, go at a gentle pace, are risk assessed and fit in with bus times.

Note: 20 Years Ago will be back next week.
