Gillian Frame gives youth free fiddle lessons
Arran Fiddle Club’s regular lessons for children are to be taught by Arran’s Gillian Frame at no charge.
From teaching herself to play the fiddle as a youngster on the island, Gillian has gone on to have a highly successful career in music.
After graduating from the RSMAD, she became the inaugural winner of the Young Traditional Musician of the Year competition in 2001. Since then she has been a familiar face in the traditional music scene. She is a member of numerous bands, playing at home and abroad, and recently became a member of the critically acclaimed band, Rant. She has many years of teaching experience and in 2012 was awarded Music Tutor of the Year at the Scots Traditional Music Awards. According to Alistair Paul of Arran Fiddle Club: ‘We are very fortunate to have Gillian teaching for us. This is an opportunity for island children to receive some of the best music tuition available.’
The club has received funding to help Covid recovery and is making lessons free of charge this year. There will be classes for new beginners and anyone interested should contact the club through their Facebook page or the Fèis Arainn website.
