Arran Alpachas play part in first national open day

Arran Alpacas at Balmichael joined venues across the country in celebrating the first ever national alpaca farm open day, co-ordinated by the British Alpaca Society.

The charitable event, held on the same day as the Arran farmers’ market, helped to raise £837.37 for The Arran Trust, ArCaS Cancer Support and Shiskine Primary School and nursery.

The family-friendly event attracted a large number of visitors throughout the day, with children’s excited cries being heard right across the farm. Along with meeting and feeding the alpacas, children also made good use of the playpark and extensive grounds which are ideal for children of all ages.

On offer for adults was a chance to have a look at the Balmichael glamping pods and some time to enjoy coffee, cakes and refreshments, while the children were kept occupied.

In addition to the ArCaS lucky duck games, children were also treated to stories read by Arran author Alison Page whose Corrie’s Capers series of books are well-known and loved on Arran.

Arran Alpacas offer trekking experiences and the opportunity for children to learn all about the South American mammals. Operating from a huge farm at Balmichael, the owners Tom and Emma Jessop, also offer glamping pods for rustic and sustainable camping.
