Help at hand to guide you on climb of Goatfell
Arran Mountain Festival (AMF) guides will be leading a walk up Goatfell aimed at first-timers and those that have never managed to ascend Arran’s highest peak, writes Colin Smeeton.
After years of welcoming walkers from Arran and around the world to the annual AMF every May, the guides often hear from locals who have never managed to climb Goatfell for various reasons.
A spokesperson from AMF said: ‘One thing that we hear often is how many people there are on Arran who would love to climb Goatfell but haven’t quite got round to it yet.
‘You might worry that you’ll get lost, or you might just lack the confidence to head out there on your own. There are a whole load of reasons why you might not have ventured up yet, but we’re here to help.
‘All of us here at the AMF team are passionate about the landscape we live in, and we want as many people as possible to experience the feeling we get and take in the views we see when we walk in our amazing mountains.’ To help people accomplish their dreams, organisers will be offering a guided walk up Arran’s highest peak on Saturday September 25. Aimed at Goatfell first-timers, this will be a leisurely walk with plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the beautiful scenery all around you.
Their experienced walk leaders have a wealth of experience and knowledge and will tailor the experience to ensure that everyone enjoys their day on Goatfell, with the ultimate aim of reaching the summit and taking in the epic views from the top.
All that is required to join the expedition will be a reasonable level of fitness, sturdy walking boots, water, a packed lunch and snacks, and the guides will provide all the encouragement and motivation that you need to succeed.
