Wednesday September 8, The Bannatyne Cup. A total of 16 played in The Bannatyne, one of the last medal play events of the season and always played on a Wednesday.

Scoring was impressive but Sandy Pringle, opening with four 3s in the first six holes, set a high standard and went on to win by three shots from Jamie Macpherson. Results: 1 Sandy Pringle 13, 56, 2 Jamie Macpherson 4, 59 and lowest gross, 3 Mark West 12, 62, 4 Duncan Heenan 12, 64. Magic twos Duncan and Jamie @17th.

Sunday September 12, Aitken Rosebowl. Donated to the club in 1909, The Aitken is one of the club’s oldest trophies and one of the few played as foursomes, a demanding format which requires both playing partners to contribute to the team score.

A total of 12 played, allowing a draw for six pairings. Tellingly no twos were recorded while a three at the 8th and a 12 at the 4th also testify to the demands of the format. Results: 1 Neil Lucas and John Pennycott 14, 63, 2 Gavin Mainds and David Brookens 9,65 acb, 3 Duncan Heenan and Bruce Cameron 21, 65.
