Eco-aware flock to Arran’s Climate Fringe event
To promote climate, environmental, biodiversity and sustainability awareness on Arran, Eco Savvy hosted its first Climate Fringe event to help celebrate and promote some of the work being undertaken by organisations on Arran, writes Colin Smeeton.
Taking place at Ormidale Pavilion on the first day of Climate Fringe Week, September 18 to 26, the event included representatives from the Arran Pioneer Project, Think about Plastic (TAP), Community of Arran Seabed Trust (COAST), Woodside Farm CIC, Arran Repair Cafe (ARC) and the National Trust for Scotland (NTS).
Those attending learned about the work that the various groups are doing to help combat environment and climate change and took part in a number of activities offered by the groups.
These included testing ebikes, visiting the community gardens at Cladach, taking part in a squirrel feeder construction tutorial, a beach clean and an enjoyable ‘low carbon’ lunch in the garden.
Also on offer were a number of talks and information on food resilience, marine conservation, blue carbon, the Arran Geopark Project and other green initiatives on the island.
Stall
Visitors could also buy a number of green products and literature from the Eco Savvy stall, whose representatives provided information about the numerous environmental activities undertaken by the group.
The event was well-attended by like-minded people who joined thousands of others who celebrated Climate Fringe Week at events throughout Scotland ahead of COP26 which will take place in Glasgow starting on Sunday October 31.
