Ultra Tour of Arran is back

The twice-postponed Rat Race Ultra Tour of Arran event takes place on the island this weekend.

The event will be based at Ormidale Park where a tented village has been erected. This year there will be a staggered start from the grass at Brodick beach. Saturday's start will be from 8am to 8.30am with runners heading to Kildonan on a 30-mile route. Sunday's start will be between 7am and 7.30am with the route heading to Lochranza, Cock of Arran, Sannox, and many mountains in between. Finishers on each day will cross the line from 1pm to 7pm.

One of the organisers said: 'The event is smaller in runner numbers and infrastructure than previous years, but we hope it to be perfectly formed and a great island adventure for participants. We have passed through all local authority scrutinisations and are looking forward to the event, albeit in October rather than our usual April.'
