Make a Will, Make a Difference

Ayrshire Hospice is inviting people on Arran to make or update their will during Make a Will Fortnight which is now in its 10th year of fundraising for the hospice.

Make a Will Fortnight runs from Monday October 18 to Friday October 29 and gives people from across Ayrshire and Arran the opportunity to make or update their will in exchange for a donation to the hospice. To support the charity, while also taking care of your will arrangements, all participants need to do is to make an appointment at their preferred participating solicitor during the two week period and they will take care of the rest.

There are more than 30 participating solicitors, including Jas Campbell and Co Ltd in Brodick, Nellany & Co LLP in Saltcoats, Stewart & Osborne Legal LLP in Beith and Taylor & Henderson LLP with offices in Saltcoats and across Ayrshire. Kathryn Howell, senior fundraising officer at Ayrshire Hospice said: ‘Thank you to all the participating solicitors who are giving their time and expertise free of charge to support our Make a Will Fortnight.’

The first Make a Will fortnight was held in 2011 and, so far, it has raised an amazing £215,000 for Ayrshire Hospice. Over 30 solicitors across Ayrshire and Arran take part, preparing and updating wills during the two-week campaign.

Kathryn added: ‘If the time is ever right for you to remember a charity in your Will, please remember Ayrshire Hospice. Every gift in every Will, regardless of size, makes a difference to the exceptional and compassionate care that we provide to patients and their families today and in the future. You can leave us a gift of even 1 per cent in your will so those closest to you inherit 99 per cent.’

The care provided by Ayrshire Hospice is at no cost to patients or their families, however, it does require extensive, ongoing fundraising support. It costs £7.9 million per year to run all hospice services, including patient, fundraising and support services – equating to approximately £22,000 per day; and 80p in every £1 raised goes directly towards patient care.
