40 years of visiting sees sergeant lead island police

-

Sergeant Kevin Blackley, who has taken over from retired sergeant Dougie Robertson, is no stranger to Arran, having visited the island for more than 40 years.

Now leading the local police team, he is looking forward to serving the communities where he has previously spent time holidaying with his wife and, on occasion, where he has previously worked.

Sergeant Blackley has more than 25 years of police service, predominantly serving the communities of Ayrshire. His most recent work has been in a road policing role, where he was responsible for maintaining and promoting road safety and disrupting the criminal use of motor vehicles on Scotland’s roads.

When not on duty, he enjoys kayaking, running and being out and about with his dog, a friendly Siberian husky called Storm.

Storm is a registered therapet so the pair volunteer, visiting care homes where the presence of an affectionate and friendly dog provides residents with an emotional and mental boost, which has proven health benefits.

Sergeant Blackley told the Arran Banner on a visit to the office: ‘I sincerely look forward to meeting the residents of Arran and leading the local policing team which serves this diverse and unique island community.’
