Hallowe’en and bonfire night fun on arran

-

With the onset of colder nights and the evenings drawing in, and the clocks going back this weekend, it can only mean one thing - it’s time for Hallowe’en and bonfire night celebrations

On Arran, we are particularly fortunate that a large number of villages are hosting celebrations. $nd, these are not just confined to one evening, but they will be held over two week’s, giving fans of Hallowe’en and bonfires numerous opportunities to attend one, or more, event.

Nearing the big day itself, Lamlash 3rimary will host their party, on Friday th, today from 1pm to 2.45pm. Raucous fun and well-loved games can be enjoyed at Whiting Bay Hall on Saturday October 30, when villagers celebrate their Hallowe’en in style between 4pm and 6pm. also on Saturday, Shiskine village will go all out with their Hallowe’en party which takes place between 3pm until 4.30 pm. There will be competitions for guising and the best lantern made by a child. a special prize will also be awarded for a traditional turnip lantern and for the best home-made costume. In addition, there will also be games, grub and ghouls to add to the fun. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult and face coverings will be required, unless exempt.

Come 2ctober st itself, on Hallowe’en, The Old Post Office Laundry in %rodick, will be holding a Creepy Hallowe’en open house from 6pm to 8.15 pm, an event definitely full of Hallowe’en scares and a bag of goodies for those who dare to attend.

Also on Hallowe’en, there will be a Sinister Stroll at Brodick Castle. Join them for an atmospheric stroll around the haunted Brodick Castle and its ghoulish grounds. Go and see what scares and frights they have in store on an eerie Halloween night. There will be screams aplenty in these creepy surroundings and you can even join in the fun by dressing up in your scariest outfit. Can you escape from the ghouls and ghosts? Join other brave souls for a night of frights from 10pm until pm. No booking is required.

And before the Hallowe’en costumes have been packed away for the year we move straight into bonfire nights. Kicking off in fine style Whiting Bay starts the

celebrations on Friday November 5, at 6pm, when their event includes a spectacular bonfire at the putting green and fireworks. The barbecue will start at 5.45pm and there will be free glow bangles for children. Parents are reminded that they are responsible for their children's safety and Covid regulations will need to be adhered to.

Also on Friday November 5, visitors can look forward to the %rodick fireworks sponsored by Brodick Improvements, with the bonfire and fireworks starting at 7pm. Families from around the island are welcome to join in the celebrations on the beach behind the small

Co-op. Donations going towards next year’s fireworks, instead of an entrance fee, would be welcomed, so keep a look out for the yellow hats going round. Everyone is then invited back to Brodick Golf Club where soup and sausage rolls will be available.

Not just a bonfire night, Lochranza and Catacol Village Hall and Lochranza Centre CIC are combining resources to bring you the Northend Festival of Fire.

This will be their third year organising this event. The castle and the village green will be the focal points for most of the events in what should be a fantastic evening for visitors. There will be a traditional bonfire, lit to the sound of the Isle of Arran Pipe Band. Fireworks will be set off on the road leading to Lochranza Castle and the Arran Mobile Disco will provide music on the village green during the fireworks display. The evening will continue with a family dance in the village with a licensed bar from 8.30pm until 10.30pm. Attendees will be able to dance the night away to the sounds of the Sound Cradle Band.
