Arran among six new food and drink trails

Island’s tasty produce offerings key to visitors’ enjoyment

-

Six new taste trails, with one devoted exclusively to Arran, have been developed by Ayrshire and Arran Destination Alliance (AADA) in a new initiative aimed at promoting the region’s food and drink offerings.

The six taste trails - Arran, Farm to Fork, Vegan and Vegetarian, Tipple, Seafood and lastly Ice Cream - were created with funding from the Regional Food Fund, Scotland.

The trails celebrate the best of Ayrshire and Arran’s local produce, and the businesses where people can enjoy world-class local food and drink while also providing ideas, inspiration and authentic experiences for a relaxing foodie escape.

In addition to the taste trails, AADA also invited food and drink influencers, including travel writer and broadcaster Robin McKelvie, to come and experience and help to promote the outstanding food and drink that can be found in the area.

Alliance chief executive Daniel Steel said: ‘It’s no exaggeration to say that the culinary offering in Ayrshire and Arran is sensational.

‘From fresh seafood bursting with flavour to mouth-watering ice creams produced with milk from the region’s famous cows, there’s something to suit every taste and palette.

‘We are delighted to launch these new visitor experiences to celebrate the area’s natural larder, and to showcase the providers across Ayrshire and Arran.

‘As always, our amazing businesses and producers across the region are key to success and have helped us to bring together six new Taste Trails, allowing visitors to plan their trip around one or two eating stops or organise a food crawl sampling some of the best tastes as they go.’

Alastair Dobson, managing director of Arran Dairies and voluntary AADA director, added: ‘The launch of the six new taste trails by AADA brings together a large number of local food and drink producers and is a great addition to Ayrshire and Arran’s tourism offering.

‘We hope that visitors and local people are encouraged to taste their way around the region and enjoy the world class produce and experiences available.’

Owner of Bellevue Farm and food tourism ambassador for Scotland Food and Drink Ailsa Currie said: ‘As an agritourism business owner and food tourism ambassador for Scotland Food and Drink, I am delighted to see the six new Ayrshire and Arran taste trails being launched.

‘These trails will be key to visitors enjoying locally-sourced and locally produced food and drink whilst touring the region and it’s important that people are able to hear about the stories and people behind it.

‘The six Ayrshire and Arran taste trails are an excellent way to celebrate our local farmers, producers, growers, distillers and retailers and I am 100 per cent behind showcasing the high quality food and drink that we are lucky to have on offer to our visitors.’
