Rumours is where your hair story begins
A new business has just opened on Arran which aims to cater for all your hair and treatment needs.
The Rumours Hair Salon opened last Friday in Brodick. Many have wondered what was going on with the vacant unit in the parade of shops by the chippy Hooked & Cooked, Copperwheats and ArCaS, and now we all know! It's a beautiful salon offering traditional mens barbering and all aspects of ladies hairdressing ... and what a transformation.
Kate and Dave Nicholson, the proud owners have worked tirelessly to create a warm, welcoming and professional environment. Quite simply, to see the salon is to believe it. With a bespoke cutting station made to measure by John Kerr Joinery, wood cladding with bespoke sign writing, a modern black and white ceiling and a country theme twist, it really is a completely different space and as their tag lines says, it's ‘Where your hair story begins'. They would personally like to thank John Kerr, Phillip McMillan, Harry Doubleday and all their friends who have made this possible. Not forgetting the ‘secret electrician'.
Kate has been a successful hairdresser for 16 years, even winning an award from one of Scotland's most prestigious salons - Rainbow Room International. Kate previously ran a successful salon on Arran but unfortunately had to stop due to starting a family and the commitment it involved. Kate said: 'I have always wanted to have the perfect salon, and finally I think I've got it. Four months of hard work suddenly feels worth it.'
Kate covers all aspects of ladies hair, from trims to full colours and from cuts to wedding hair. In fact, Kate loves nothing more than styling hair for special occasions. 'I have always loved my job, to me there is no better feeling than seeing a transformation or making somebody happy by the way I cut or style their hair. Wedding hair is a particular passion of mine as I love the opportunity to make each person feel amazing on their special day,' she added.
Quite the opposite, Dave has just graduated from the International School of Scottish Master Barbers in Glasgow. Dave had no former experience as a barber but thrilled his professors with his dedication and ability. So much so that he was fast tracked and passed his final graduation a month early.
Dave said: 'Kate had a vision for a salon and I knew that Arran needed a reliable and good barber. When the unit became available it seemed like a sensible option, although I was nervous about retraining. Nerves aside, I have loved every minute of it and found a new passion in life. I've gone from Chippy Dave to Clippy Dave. I still get nervous, but that will pass in time, and I love watching the fades or cuts come alive as I work.'
Having got married last year, Kate and Dave wanted to try and slow down their pace of life, giving them more family time with their children and spending more time together as a couple. With their new venture they hope to have just that. 'We hope we will be able to have more family time now, something that was very hard to do before because of work commitments,' Dave said and Kate added: “We have high hopes for the salon and intend to introduce ear piercing soon, something we know our girls are desperate for, along with other beauty therapies in the near future. Our vision is to have a one stop shop for all our customers.'
Operating a modern online booking system showing availability, services and prices, Rumours has already demonstrated its popularity and has been fully booked every day since opening. Open from 10am till 5.30pm Tuesday to Saturday with a late night 8pm close on Wednesdays. They also offer a walk-in service, although booked clients will take precedence.
If you would like to book an appointment with them you can do so through their Rumours Facebook page, by calling them on 01770 302438 or by popping in where you are sure to receive a warm welcome.
Rumours looks forward to welcoming you soon and starting the journey of your hair story.
