Memories group awarded funding to expand activities
Whiting Bay Memories group is celebrating after receiving a generous funding boost from the National Lottery Community Fund.
The group, which focuses on Whiting Bay’s history and current community cohesion and care, was awarded £3,062 by the National Lottery to fund the group’s activities.
Whiting Bay Memories will use the money to re-establish weekly drop-in meetings so people can socialise, share memories, and tell the story of Whiting Bay through exhibitions, events and online. They are also planning a big community project which will involve participants from Arran and right across the globe.
Plans also include buying lightweight display equipment so they can offer school, home and residential care visits and be able to share their content with other interested organisations. There are also plans to carry out interviews, film events and many other avenues are being investigated. They hope to provide something for everyone to enjoy, and volunteer opportunities.
Group founder, Barbara I’Anson, said: ‘Thanks to National Lottery players this grant means we can bring our community back together after so much social isolation and enjoy getting to know everyone who moved here during recent years. ‘We will be able to build resilience into the group and, of course, find, capture and tell the story of Whiting Bay. This will make a big difference to people’s lives.’
