Success at racing team’s first competitive outing

Jingly Jangly Images Racing had a successful first race meeting at East Fortune near Edinburgh at the North East of England’s Motorcycle Racing Club championships.
The team, managed by Brodick’s Lenny Hartley, were delighted to secure two wins and a third place at their first meeting with rider Callum Laidlaw of Alnwick.
The results in the Post Classic Junior Class far exceeded expectations considering that this was Callum’s first ride of Lenny’s BSR Racing Yamaha TZ350, which is a highly tuned two-stroke with a narrow power band which usually takes some time to get accustomed to.
Team manager Lenny said: ‘I am delighted with the two wins and third place as we basically only entered as a test to get the gearing and carburetor settings right for the Bob McIntyre Memorial Meeting next month. ‘This is the motorcycle’s first outing since a complete rebuild over the winter and Callum has got himself up to speed with it really quickly.’
Callum has achieved many noteworthy results over the years, including being a lap record holder and podium finisher in the 400cc class at the World's Fastest Road race, the Ulster Grand Prix.
He also has won races on the Irish National Roads Championships and competed in the Isle of Man TT with a best result of 15th in the Lightweight TT.
The BSR Racing Yamaha TZ350 has enjoyed an equally illustrious career and was unlucky not to win a Manx Grand Prix in 1979 – ridden by Haddington’s Multi Scottish Champion Stewart Cole, who was only nine miles from victory on the Isle of Man TT course when a gear lever shaft snapped when he was more than 10 seconds in the lead.
Stewart set a lap record during that race and went on to secure many wins on the motorbike.
The next outing for man, machine and manager, will be the Bob McIntyre Memorial Meeting at East Fortune over the weekend of June 25 and 26 and, depending on a number of factors, after that possibly some GP Originals races at Donington and Cadwell Park in England.
