Resurfacing works finally to start at Brathwic Place
Resurfacing works are finally to take place on the roads in Brodick leading to the new council houses.
Brathwic Place and Brathwic Terrace have been left badly damaged by more than three years of heavy construction traffic going to and from the site of the 34 new homes, which were completed late last year.
Now a major programme of resurfacing work is planned to start later this month with part of Alma Road also included in the work.
However, it will lead to at least two weeks of serious traffic disruption as there is no alternative route during road closures. Work is due to commence on Monday February 27 for two weeks, except weekends.
Householders in the area have been given advance warning and have been told: “During the first two days of the contract, whilst preparatory works such as planning out the existing surface, kerb works and adjustment of gullies, manholes, etc are being carried out, the road will remain open and traffic will be managed.
“However, when materials are being laid to form the new carriageway surface it will be necessary to implement time limited closures.
“These will be in place for up to two hours following the arrival of material from the mainland on the 9.45am, 12.30pm and 3.30pm ferries from Ardrossan.
“The timing of these closures will, therefore, be ferry service and also weather dependant.”
However, residents have been warned: “In order to allow the surfacing contractor access to all areas of the road and to maintain a safe working environment for the workforce and public, access and egress will not be permitted during the periods of road closure and residents who normally park on the road will be required to make alternative arrangements.”
The letter ends: “Commercial Services (Roads) would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation in this matter.”
