Growers prepare for spring show
Gardeners and horticulturists on Arran have been pampering their plants, chatting to their crocuses and trimming their tulips in anticipation of the Arran Horticultural Society’s annual Spring Flower and Bulb Show.
Making a welcome return after an enforced break during the pandemic, the show is scheduled for Saturday March 25, at Brodick Hall from 2pm to 4pm. On offer for visitors will be an array of beautiful flowers, pot plants, floral art, children’s creations, artwork and photographs, along with tea, homebaking and a raffle.
Horticultural Society president John Sillars said: “The society is delighted to once again be hosting the annual spring show after an enforced interruption over the pandemic.
“For many, it was tending their gardens and nurturing plants indoors that provided some relief over the long days of lockdown. With its sense of optimism and renewal, we welcome spring 2023 with extra anticipation.
“Good luck if you are entering this year and thank you for your continued support.
“If you are not entering, we thank you for your interest and hope you will consider rejoining the society and exhibit at our summer show in August or at next year’s spring show.”
New exhibitors and those thinking of exhibiting for the first time are encouraged to take part in the show with a spokesperson from the society saying: “The hall will be open from 10am to midday on the morning of the show.
“Don’t worry if you are a new exhibitor – there will be plenty of help at Brodick Hall to show you how to get the best from your entries.” Vases and transport can be arranged by contacting the committee on arranhorticulturalsociety@gmail.com or phoning 07796 170 487. Prizes for the main trophy categories, including raffle winners, will be announced at 3.30pm.
