Exciting programme of events at poetry festival

-

An exciting programme of events has been lined up for the 2023 McLellan Poetry Fringe Festival 2023.

The festival will run from Thursday May 11 to Sunday May 14 at venues around Arran. Come along and enjoy an informal evening of poetry, spoken word and music at the Brodick Bar on Thursday May 11 to kick off the festival. Everyone is welcome and there is free entry at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. It will be followed by a poetry night at Corrie and Sannox Village Hall on Friday May 12 at 7.30pm for 8pm start.

William Letford published his first collection of poetry while working as a roofer. Since then, his work has been adapted into film, projected onto buildings, carved into monuments, adapted for the stage, written onto skin, cast out over the radio and performed by orchestras.

Magi Gibson is a leading voice in Scottish poetry. She draws inferences from the little things in life - shopping for stationery, admiring a stranger’s hat, drinking tea with a friend - that affect the big issues in all our lives - growing older, poverty and loss. Tickets, priced £12, are available on Eventbrite in advance or on the door on the night. Students free.

A poetry workshop will be held by William Letford on Saturday May 13 at Stonewater House, Lamlash, at 10.45am for 11am start. Pre-booking is essential via Eventbrite or contact Carol on 07415 427270 or arranpoetry@gmail.com. Tickets are priced £18. Limited to 10 places.

An evening of spoken word poetry will be held on Saturday May 13, again at Corrie and Sannox Village Hall, at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Headlining will be Kevin P Gilday with Annaliese Broughton, winner of the McLellan Poetry Competition 2022. They will be supported by the other 2022 competition prize winners: Tillotama Chowdhury, Morag Smith, Penny Shutt and A C Clarke. Tickets, priced £12, are available on Eventbrite in advance or on the door on the night. Students free.

The event rounds off with a workshop with award-winning poet Magi Gibson on Sunday May 14 at Stonewater House, Lamlash, at 10.45am for 11am start.
