Arran Singers ready to entertain at summer concert in Lochranza

-

It has been a busy six months for the Arran Singers.

In December, we had the privilege to sing in the John Dick Carol Service in Lamlash Church.

Later that month we were invited to sing in the carol service organised by the Baptist Church in Brodick Village Hall.

After a short break for the Christmas and New Year celebrations, we were busy with final practices for our first concert since lockdown, which took place in Brodick Hall in late January in front of an appreciative audience. It felt good to be able to sing together in public again after all the restrictions of the Covid lockdown.

We have also welcomed a number of new members to our choir, whose contribution has been much valued.

Before lockdown, the choir had, for several years, been involved in a service of music and readings in Whiting Bay Church during Holy Week and we were happy to return to the church and sing wonderful sacred music in the context for which it was written.

Now in June, after singing in Brodick, Lamlash and Whiting Bay, the choir is heading for Lochranza for our summer concert in the village hall on Saturday June 24 at 7.30pm.

Summer concerts in Lochranza offer the possible bonus of leaving the hall to see the castle and sea beyond in the beautiful evening light weather permitting, of course.

As with all our concerts, we offer a variety of music to suit all tastes.

Well-known opera extracts will feature with music by Mascagni and Puccini, some extracts from which Messa di Gloria will be sung. There will be fine arrangements of traditional songs and popular songs from great American show composers including Cole Porter and George Gershwin, some sung by our guest group Ain’t Misbehavin’. For those of us who remember the heady days of the 1960s, we will be singing some Beatles songs.

So put Saturday June 24 in your diaries and come up to Lochranza for an evening of enjoyable music.
