Quilters uncover a wealth of talent at annual exhibition
The biannual exhibition by the Quilt Arran group highlighted the high level of talent and skill of its members who displayed their work at Corrie and Sannox Village Hall.
The event showcased the detailed and intricate embroidery and quilting work created by the group which hosts an exhibition of members’ work every two years.
The exhibition took place on three days over the May bank holiday weekend and attracted a steady stream of admirers.
In addition to the exhibition of work, members also submitted entries for a stitching challenge with the theme “a vase of flowers”.
Visitors talked with the quilters and embroiders to learn about the techniques and inspiration behind some of the quilts over tea and cake.
They also voted for their favourite item by placing stickers next to the quilt, cushion or the item they liked the most.
The winners of the people’s favourite competition were announced at an informal prizegiving on the last day of the exhibition.
Visitors to the exhibition praised the quilters for their ability to breath new life into old fabric as a majority of the materials used in the creations have been reused or recycled.
Others were struck by the complexity of the geometric patterns and the well-practised stitching which has to be perfect as it is visible and not concealed behind hems or other material.
Quilt Arran was established in 2013. It has around 20 members who meet every two weeks. Anyone interested in learning how to quilt, those with experience but wishing to improve their skills or those just wanting to enjoy the social aspect is invited to join.
