EXERCISE THREE LANDSCAPE PHOTO

Now I want you to reproduce this approach but this time with a landscape subject

Use an HB pencil to sketch your landscape, break it down into its basic geometric or angular shapes. Ignore all the detail and simplify as much as you can. Draw the shapes next to each other or overlappin­g, and try to imagine the whole shapes that are there

Once you have completed the first sketch take a softer pencil and redraw the landscape using a flowing continuous line. Keep the pencil on the paper as you move around but adjust the pressure as you move. Imagine yourself as a conductor and feel the rhythm in your movements. You should now have a semiabstra­ct drawing with soft shapes and flowing, lovely curvaceous lines. It is a joy to look at and should have been a joy to create. Your second drawing should have a natural elegance and flow, which is more satisfying to look at and certainly more fun to do
