Vintage solution
When a friend of mine asked me to do a painting of his vintage car my first thoughts were of the car whizzing along –depicted by plenty of speed lines coming from various bits of the body, out-of-focus vegetation in the background and hair blowing in the breeze. In fact my friend wanted a very realistic drawing, the sort usually done with an air brush (which is not really my style) but friendlier, with perspective and accurately painted.
So out came my old light box. I know they are rather frowned upon in the fine art world but I suspect they are used more than is admitted. I got rather carried away with classic and vintage vehicles and have had a couple of commissions – it seems owners like their vehicle to be the star.
