A History of Excellence

Since its establishment in 1858, Clairefontaine has had a rich tradition of producing premium paper products and are one of the few manufacturers across the world to still use their own paper mills, which are located at four sites across Europe, including Étival-Clairefontaine, based in France. In addition, their Schut mill dates back to 1618 and was one of the very first in the Netherlands to produce art papers, those which even Rembrandt used.

As part of the overall Exacompta-Clairefontaine group, they offer one of the widest, most popular paper ranges available on the market, incorporating industry know-how to produce a diverse selection of high quality and innovative fine art products.

The environment has always been a large consideration in the way the group operates and environmental protection has been an integral part of their corporate strategy for over 40 years. They are continuously promoting recycling and waste limitation at their sites and use pulp from sustainably managed forests. Many of their products carry the FSC® and PEFC™ certifications.

The Clairefontaine name and logo continue to grow as symbols of quality around the world, inspiring the flourishing artistic fan base that remain passionate about the brand.
