STAGE SEVEN
I mixed the background colour from ultramarine blue and burnt sienna, and used a touch of white to mix a slightly lighter shade for the right side. Also I mixed the colour for the table using naphthol red and ivory black, lightening it where needed with lemon yellow. These mixes had a couple of drops of linseed oil added and I used soft brushes – much of it was painted with a 1in wash brush. At this stage the edges can be worked to refine shapes, soften or harden edges. I added shadows and reflections to the table. After this, I will still need to revisit the glass and leaves, and make final adjustments to the colours and petal shapes of the flowers
