Francis Hamel: Rousham
The magical gardens of Rousham, in Oxfordshire form the focus of this new exhibition of work by artist Francis Hamel. Known predominantly for his landscape and portrait paintings, the exhibition is the result of a 25-year relationship with the gardens, which began in 1974. The onset of lockdown in March 2020 meant that Francis was able to forge a deeper connection with them and he started to paint the ancient trees, hidden paths and unexpected vistas as he walked through the series of ‘rooms’ that characterise the gardens. The exhibition opens at the Studio and Kent Pavilion at Rousham, Oxfordshire on October 1 to 7 before moving on to the John Martin Gallery, 38 Albemarle Street, London W1, from October 18 to November 12.
