The Artist

Fine grain paper (Cold Pressed, Not)

-

This paper is smooth, with minimal tooth (indentation). Washes flow beautifully on this paper and paint lifts off well. Mistakes can be rectified more successfully by lifting off. The paper is most beneficial to artists who paint detail, for example wildlife art, botanical art and pen and wash. Sedimentation/granulation still occurs but very subtly.

Misty effects can be easily achieved on this paper and it lends itself to more delicate subject matter.

One major characteristic of this paper is the fact that the ‘edge’ of the painted area is linear and hard. This does not happen with Rough or Medium grain papers – the painted area has a ‘fuzzier’ edge. Fine grain paper therefore allows for ‘tighter’ and more detailed work
