Basics of Drawing
Leonardo Pereznieto
What sets this enjoyable guide apart from its fellows is the quality of the artwork. The content is as basic as you would expect, dealing with topics from simple mark-making to shading, perspective and composition. Subjects covered range from landscapes and buildings to still lifes, animals and people. Without going into excessive detail, or becoming a comprehensive guide to any one topic, the range is as broad as you could possibly wish from something that doesn’t attempt to be all things at once.
It’s important to remark that this is specifically about pencil drawing. True, most of the principles can be applied to any medium, but Leonardo Pereznieto’s work is subtle and detailed and, if this is your tool of choice, you’ll be well served. The quality of reproduction is so good that every mark, however subtle, can be seen clearly and this is the icing on an already beautiful cake. Sixth&Spring £17.99, 144 pages (P/B) ISBN 9781684620166
