Loving Yupo paper
Amanda Hyatt is one of my favourite artists. I agree with Amanda that Yupo paper is a very difficult surface to use with watercolour (The Artist, October 2021 issue) but can be addictive, as she says. With patience and practice you can develop your own style and technique and maybe add this to the surfaces you paint on.
I love to paint animals and wildlife and often get asked to paint commissions of people's pets. After lots of experimentation, I fell in love with painting these subjects on Yupo, making full use of the flowing nature and abstract effects this allows, and developing my own techniques for controlling the paint and adding detail.
With care, colours can remain vibrant or muted as you require. Mistakes can be washed off and whole sheets used again, plus it states that this paper is recyclable – all plus points.
