The Artist

A general view of the scene

-

For my demonstration I have selected a view of the town bridge in Bradford on Avon, complete with its lockup. I am pleased to say that I have never been interned in this structure, despite many boisterous nights out during my younger days.

For this picture I was excited by the relationship of the sunlit areas, the deep shadows cast by the lockup and the underside of the arches. I decided to make it a winter scene as, in summer, the large tree behind the bridge can be overpowering. By having bare branches I was able to view the sky, so introducing light at the top of the picture.

I must admit to a bit of artist licence with this painting. The view is looking towards the west with an afternoon sky; however, the direction of the light is more typical of late morning.
