STAGE THREE

I started to add roof shingles and tiles. There’s not much detail on the chimney as I didn’t want to draw attention to it. I used GIMP* to lighten my reference photograph under the porch to see what was going on there. To darken the top of the sky I taped around the roof, wet the sky down to the trees and then dropped in the paint. I did the same for the foreground at the bottom of the painting. Using the tape-and-sponge stencil I lifted out paint to lighten some wall rocks. I drew around them with a brown watercolour pencil and then shaded beneath individual stones
